The District of the Prosecco di Conegliano e Valdobbiadene is an area across the hills, North/North-East of the Treviso Province, just 25 km away from the wonderful city of Treviso. The production area of the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOC includes 15 municipalities: Conegliano, Susegana, S. Vendemiano, Colle Umberto, Vittorio Veneto, Cison di Valmarino, S. Pietro di Feletto, Refrontolo, Pieve di Soligo, Farra di Soligo, Miane, Vidor, Follina, Tarzo, Valdobbiadene and extends over a surface of about 20.000 hectares, 5.000 of which, approximately, are cultivated with vineyards and include 60 sparkling wine houses, about 3.000 wine growers and 1.500 operators of the Oenological field. Within this area there is also the famous Cartizze area, whose wine, due to the land morphology and to the local micro climate have conferred precious organoleptic qualities that are appreciated worldwide.
This vine species have been present all over this territory for more than two centuries now, but some say that it was already known at the time of the Roman Empire. From the XIX century, thanks to the support of the “Viticulture and Oenology School of Conegliano” and of the “Experimental Institute of Viticulture” and also thanks to the work by the “Consorzio per la tutela del Prosecco” (The Consortium for the protection of Prosecco), this wine had a great production development in the whole territory which became the first “Italian Sparkling District” in conformity with the legislation where a complete production network was created. |

On July 17th, 2009 with the decree of the Ministry for the Agricultural Policies of Italy, the Prosecco DOC became “Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG” and on April 1st, 2010 it is officially on the market with the grape harvest of 2009. To guarantee for the consumers there are: the “Consorzio di Tutela” (The Consortium for the protection) that monitors the production, “Valoritalia” that certifies the wine and then the Italian Government that requires to apply on each bottle the numbered strip, the so called salmon pink color “fascetta” (=strip). This strip placed over the cap of each bottle bears an identification number which makes the wine traceable so that each consumer can at any time track down all the production stages of the product he/she is drinking.
Besides all of this there is something new that make this land more valuable: i.e. the addition of “Rive”. This type/denomination identifies the selection of grapes coming from single locations and has even more restraining production rules. With “Rive”, consumers can discover that each hill has exclusive characteristics.
